The conditions for Danish research are being challenged by geopolitical tensions and global competition, which place greater demands on security procedures. The consequences of this increased security focus should be monitored so that institutions and authorities can adjust their approach if the desired outcomes are not achieved.
DFIRbrief 56: A Balance Between Collaboration And Security (pdf)
Rising geopolitical tensions and global competition impose stricter requirements on security procedures in the research domain. In this DFIRbrief, the Danish Council for Research and Innovation Policy examines developments in two key metrics: the number of international co-publications and the intake of international PhD students.
The brief highlights that security procedures in the research area should be differentiated, proportionate and precise to ensure minimal interference. It is recommended that such procedures be developed in partnership with the researchers and research institutions involved. At the same time, there is a continued need to discuss which metrics should be included when monitoring international collaboration, as well as the consequences of the current policy approach.
